RV Camping: Where to Find the Best Fall Foliage in Arizona

September 22 marked the official start of Fall, even though it may not yet feel like it in the state that experiences more 140 days of triple-digit weather annually. But don’t be fooled by the saguaros you see in the Valley (A.K.A. Phoenix metro). Arizona has much more color to offer on your RV trip than just arid, desert land.

Here we’ve compiled a list of the best places to go RV camping to immerse yourself in all the seasonal foliage Arizona has to offer. Go ahead, take that big jump into a pile of leaves!

1. Arizona Snowbowl

9300 N. Snow Bowl Rd | Flagstaff, AZ

Sure, it has the word “snow” in it, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a magnificent place to chase Autumn colors, too! Take in plenty of golden foliage through the easy 1.5-mile Aspen Nature Loop through the vibrant aspen and ponderosa groves.

Tip: The seasonal colors are at their best during the first couple of weeks of October, so plan accordingly!

2. North Kaibab Trailhead

Grand Canyon | North Rim, AZ

Of course, there’s no shortage of beauty anytime you visit the Grand Canyon, but you’re especially in for a treat if you visit during the Fall with all its yellow, orange and red hues in its aspen trees that are contrasted by white bark. You’ll also get to see evergreen trees before the holiday season.

Tip: We recommend reserving your spot at the Kaibab Lake Campground at the Kaibab Lake, where you can enjoy fishing, picnicking, and other recreational activities.

3. The Mogollon Rim

Rim Road | Hunter Creek, AZ

We recommend taking your loved ones along the scenic Rim Road, where Forest Road 300 is perfect for dispersed camping and hiking amongst fall-infused foliage. For the best coloring, plan to visit during mid- to late October.

Tip: Enjoy the change in scenery near the Woods Canyon Lake while you’re there!

4. Oak Creek Canyon

North State Route 89A | Sedona, AZ

Sedona is the perfect compromise between wanting to be one with nature, but also having enough modern amenities and shops to stop by. What’s better than seeing the Fall colors complement the red rocks? This destination is a pretty easy decision to make.

Tip: To time it just right to see the leaves change color, plan your trip to happen sometime between late September through mid-October.

5. Pinetop-Lakeside

Notable for its four-season weather, the quaint town of Pinetop-Lakeside, located within Arizona’s White Mountains, is especially loved in the Fall. This tranquil spot not only has majestic colors, but is also a prime location for an uncrowded, peaceful trip. As its name suggests, take in the lush pine forests and lakes.

Tip: Don’t forget to bring your hiking, hunting, fishing, and golfing gear!
